Summer evenings on the turf are set to heat up again as Wellington Hockey’s Summer Competitions return from 21 October to 26 November. This year, players can look forward to six weeks of fast-paced, social, and family-friendly hockey, plus the launch of a brand-new 11-aside competition on Wednesday nights at the National Hockey Stadium.
As an added bonus, all team entries go into the draw to win tickets for up to 10 players to the Premier Hockey League matches on 6th or 7th December, where the Falcons take on the Alpiners and Tridents.
What's on offer this summer:
Super Summer Sixes
Tuesday Nights | NHS, Fraser, Elsdon, Maidstone (new venue)
6 week competition running from 21 October - 25 November. 6-aside with 15min halves. First games start at approximately 6:20pm, with the final games starting no later than 8:00pm. Cost $265 per team.
Family Sixes – parents & kids (10+) playing together
Mixed Social Sixes – fun, social games for mates, work teams and those new to hockey
Mixed Competitive Sixes – for those regular hockey players looking to stay active
Summer Classic Elevens | New for 2025!
Wednesdays Nights | NHS only
6 week competition running from 22 October - 26 November. Game format is 25min halves, 11-aside full field hockey, normal hockey rules. Games start at 6:15pm, 7:15pm and 8:15pm.
Youth Grade teams are mainly players aged 14–18, with a handful of adults supporting the side. Think father-son combos or whānau joining in.
Mixed Youth Grade (14–18 players + whānau support) - $450 per team
Mixed Open Grade (18+) - $515 per team
Summer Masters League
Thursdays Nights | Multiple venues
Designed for 33+ players looking for a run around, good banter and preparation for National Masters Tournament in February. Looking for a team to join? Put in your interest here and team organisers will get in touch.
8 week competition running from 16 October - 4 December. Game format is 25min halves, 11-aside full field hockey, normal hockey rules. Games start at approximately 6:30pm, 7:30pm and 8:30pm (if required). Cost $685 per team

Competition Status Update - Saturday 18 April
A 2:00pm update has confirmed all Fraser Park matches have been deferred due to weather conditions and the inability for teams to get to the venue, along with several NHS fixtures. All other matches are continuing, with further updates to be made as needed.

WHA Monitoring Cyclone Vaianu
All Sunday fixtures will proceed as scheduled in PlayHQ following the latest update on Cyclone Vaianu. Conditions will be monitored throughout the day, with any decisions to suspend or abandon matches made by appointed officials in consultation with WHA, in line with Section 39 of the Open Grade Handbook.
