Wellington Hockey has announced two upcoming Community / Junior Umpire Courses later in the month, perfect for anyone wanting to start their umpiring journey or gain Hockey New Zealand accreditation. This theory-based session will cover umpiring fundamentals and are open to all officials, including club and school-appointed umpires.

Wellington Hockey is proud to announce that Josh McDougall, Ashley Hanaray, and Selina Akavi have been selected to umpire at the 2025 Vantage National Under 18 Tournament, recognising their dedication and growth as emerging officials on the national stage. Congratulations on this achievement and we wish you all the best for the tournament!

Wellington Hockey is excited to open registrations for the 2025 In-Season Development Programme for U13 and U15 players, providing a fun and supportive training opportunity focused on skill development, game understanding, and preparing athletes that wish to attend the Lower North Island Festival or Tournament later in the year. Sessions begin in July and run across multiple locations around the region.

Nations Cup Trophy Tour Visits Wellington
Last Sunday, Wellington joined the Nations Cup Trophy Tour, where Aotea College students won a special skills session led by Black Sticks stars Finn Ward and Ri Pho, inspiring the next generation of hockey players. We’re incredibly grateful to Hockey NZ and Vantage for including Wellington in the tour, and especially for giving our young athletes such a memorable experience.

Wellington Hockey NHC Trials – Registrations Now Open!
Wellington Hockey is excited to confirm open trial dates for the 2025 National Hockey Championships (NHC), which will be held in Christchurch from 14–20 September.
Trial 1:
Day: Wednesday 25th June
Time: After 6:00 PM (Exact time TBC)
Location: National Hockey Stadium (NHS)
Trial 2:
Day: Monday 30th June
Time: After 6:00 PM (Exact time TBC)
Location: National Hockey Stadium (NHS)
These trials are for selection into Wellington Hockey’s Tier 1 and Tier 2 NHC teams for 2025.
Junior Hockey
Fun Sticks – Term 3 Registrations Open!
Fun Sticks is back for Term 3! This 6-week programme is perfect for Year 1 & 2 tamariki keen to learn hockey through fun activities, skill-building, and game play in a friendly, supportive environment.
Dates: 15 July – 23 August
Cost: $55 for six-sessions, all equipment provided
Choose a location that works best for your whānau – we’ve got five hubs running across the region:
Upper Hutt (Maidstone) – Wednesdays, 4:00 PM – 4:45 PM
Lower Hutt (Fraser Park) – Saturdays, 8:00 AM – 8:45 AM
Porirua (Elsdon) – Saturdays, 9:00 AM – 9:45 AM
Wellington City (NHS) – Saturdays, 9:00 AM – 9:45 AM
Karori (Kelburn) – Tuesdays, 4:00 PM – 4:45 PM

Wellington Hockey’s 2025 In-Season Development Programme is open for U13 (Year 7–8) and U15 (Year 9+, under 15 as of 1 Jan) players looking to further develop their skills and game understanding in a fun, supportive environment.
