Wellington Hockey recently reviewed feedback from the 2026 National Masters Tournament Survey following the tournament held in North Harbour in February, where nearly 200 Wellington players, coaches, managers, umpires, and supporters attended. The Masters Advisory Group (MAG) would like to thank the 74 people who completed the post-tournament survey and shared valuable feedback on their experience.
Overall, the survey showed a high level of satisfaction across the tournament experience, with more than 75% of respondents rating both their overall experience and pride in representing Wellington between 8–10 out of 10.

Responses highlighted a wide range of reasons why people choose to attend Masters Tournament, reflecting the diversity within the Masters hockey community. Feedback and suggestions varied accordingly, and MAG acknowledged the ongoing challenge of balancing the different expectations and experiences of participants. These discussions will continue as planning begins for future tournaments.

The survey identified lower ratings around the trial day experience and team selection outcomes. MAG also noted that more than 23 players withdrew after teams were named in November for a variety of reasons. As a result, the group intends to review its team selection policies and processes over the coming months. Anyone interested in contributing to this review is encouraged to get in touch.

Feedback surrounding coaching, team management, and local umpiring support was overwhelmingly positive. Recruiting volunteers continues to be an important focus area for MAG, and this year Wellington was pleased to have dedicated coaches for 9 of the 10 teams attending the tournament. MAG acknowledged the significant contribution made by volunteers and encouraged anyone interested in coaching, managing, or umpiring in future years to start conversations now.

The survey also generated a large amount of individual feedback and suggestions. Using AI tools, this feedback has been summarised into several key themes for the Masters community to review.
The Masters Advisory Group sincerely appreciates the feedback received and the continued support from the Wellington Masters community. As a small volunteer group, MAG acknowledged that the success of the programme relies heavily on the efforts, passion, and support of the wider community, and thanked everyone who continues to contribute to Masters hockey in Wellington.
