Wellington Athletes at Nkosi Cup and PSI U18 Indoor Nationals

Wellington Hockey is proud to recognise a group of athletes from our local hockey community who were selected to represent New Zealand at two major indoor hockey events in Cape Town, South Africa — the Nkosi Cup and the PSI U18 Nationals.

At the Nkosi Cup (12–16 December), Max Ruffell (Open Men) and McKaela Woodward (Open Women) were selected to compete in one of the world’s most renowned indoor hockey tournaments. The Nkosi Cup is known for its fast-paced, high-intensity style of play, featuring five national men’s teams and five national women’s teams competing across five days in a passionate and energetic environment.

The New Zealand Men’s team finished third overall, while the Women’s team placed fourth. A special congratulations goes to Max Ruffell, who was named Men’s Goalkeeper of the Tournament, a significant individual achievement at international level.

A number of athletes from Wellington Hockey were also selected for the U18 NZ Indoor Hockey team competing at the PSI U18 Nationals (15–18 December). This tournament provides a high-quality indoor hockey environment for emerging players, exposing them to intense competition and valuable international tournament experience.

Our athletes selected were:

  • NZ U18 Men: Levi Irvine, Jacob Obermaier, Matty Prentice, Jacob Eade

  • NZ U18 Women: India Harvey, Libby Crewther, Yasmin Rodda

Wellington Hockey congratulates all athletes on their selection and performances in South Africa. Being named in New Zealand Indoor Hockey teams reflects the dedication and hard work shown by these players, and we look forward to seeing their continued development and contribution back into the local hockey community.
