Wellington Hockey is excited to announce that registrations are now open for our 2026 Under 13 and Under 16 In-Season Development Programmes.


Designed for players looking to continue developing throughout the season, these programmes provide a fun, supportive and challenging environment where athletes can build their technical skills, improve their game understanding, and continue their hockey journey alongside experienced coaches.


Through a combination of quality coaching, skill development and game-based learning, players will develop confidence on the ball while enjoying regular Sunday sessions with others who share a passion for hockey.

More Than Weekly Training

The In-Season Development Programme isn't just about training each week. All participants will also have the opportunity to attend the Lower North Island Regional Events later in the season.

These events include:


  • Under 13 Festival – Whanganui (28–30 September)

  • Under 16 Tournament – Palmerston North (5–8 October)


These regional events provide players with an exciting opportunity to experience tournament hockey while continuing their development in a positive and enjoyable environment.


Programme Information

The programme runs from 26 July to 20 September 2026, with eight Sunday sessions across three hub locations:

  • National Hockey Stadium

  • Fraser Park

  • Kapiti Coast


Players can select their preferred hub when registering.


The programme is open to:

  • Under 13: Years 7–8 (U13 as at 1 January 2026)

  • Under 16: Years 9–11 (U16 as at 1 January 2026)

Parent & Whānau Information Evening

An online Parent & Whānau Information Evening will be held on Monday 29 June before the programme begins.


The sessions will provide an overview of:

  • Programme structure

  • Session expectations

  • Communication processes

  • Lower North Island Regional Events

  • Questions and answers


Session times:

  • U13: 6:15pm

  • U16: 7:00pm

Registrations are now open for players wishing to trial for Wellington's teams at the 2026 National Hockey Championship. With the tournament being hosted at the National Hockey Stadium this September, players have the opportunity to represent Wellington on home turf.
