Wellington Hockey is pleased to confirm the coaching teams leading our 2026 U18 and U21 representative programmes.
These coaches bring a strong mix of experience across representative hockey, player development, high-performance environments, and community sport. Across both programmes, the focus remains on creating positive environments where players are challenged to grow, compete, and represent Wellington with pride.
U21 Men
Allister McIntyre — Head Coach
Allister brings more than 35 years of involvement in hockey as both a player and coach. As a player, he represented New Zealand at age-group level and played for Wellington from U11 through to senior men’s level, while also gaining international playing experience in the Netherlands.
His coaching background includes roles with Wellington U15 and U16 Boys, Wellington U18 Men, Hutt United Premier teams, Wellington U21 Women, and Wellington Tier 2 Men.
Allister is passionate about helping players back themselves, build confidence, and work toward achieving their goals both on and off the field.
Graeme Murrell — Assistant Coach
Graeme has coached within the Wellington U21 programme over recent years and has also been involved with Wellington U18 and U15 representative campaigns.
Alongside coaching, Graeme currently plays Premier 1 hockey, represents the Falcons, and was part of the 2025 NZA team that competed internationally in Mongolia.
His coaching philosophy centres around helping athletes shape their own game while continuing to develop new skills and confidence both in hockey and everyday life.
U21 Women
Rob Dent — Head Coach
Originally from England, Rob worked as a full-time sports therapist before transitioning into full-time coaching across hockey and cricket after moving to New Zealand.
Rob brings a positive, player-centred approach to coaching, focusing on creating environments where players feel trusted, heard, and confident to express themselves on the field.
He also brings strong representative coaching experience, including with the Wellington U18 Men programme and several Wellington and New Zealand Masters teams.
Alex Grey — Assistant Coach
Since moving to Wellington, Alex has become heavily involved in representative hockey alongside Harbour City Hockey Club and Scots College programmes.
Alex enjoys helping players and teams improve within high-performance environments and believes the best teams balance enjoyment, positivity, and high standards.
He is looking forward to supporting the U21 Women’s group throughout the 2026 campaign.
U18 Men
Levi Loudon — Head Coach
Levi brings extensive coaching and playing experience to the Wellington U18 programme. His recent coaching roles include Assistant Coach positions with the JHL Falcons, NHC Women, and Wellington U21 Men programmes.
A passionate coach and strong communicator, Levi is known for building high standards, strong culture, and environments that challenge players to grow.
As a player, he competed at both Premier 1 and NHC level.
U18 Women
Hugh Rosemergy — Head Coach
With more than 40 years involved in New Zealand hockey as both a player and coach, Hugh brings a wealth of experience to the programme.
As a player, Hugh represented Wellington at national level and Waikato at both senior and age-group level. Over the past 25 years, he has coached across multiple levels, including Wellington NHC and Capital NHL women’s programmes, Wellington U18 Men, and national Junior Black Sticks environments.
More recently, Hugh has also contributed nationally as a selector for the Vantage Black Sticks Women programme.
Wellington Hockey would like to thank all coaches for their commitment to the representative pathway and the time they invest into supporting the development of young athletes across the region.
We look forward to seeing the U18 and U21 programmes continue to grow throughout the 2026 representative season.
