It was a fantastic week at the Vantage National Masters Hockey Tournament, with our Association proudly represented by four women’s teams and six men’s teams competing in warm summer conditions. With the first time the Association being able to enter a women’s 60s team. Across the grades, we saw highly competitive hockey, great sportsmanship, and plenty of determination on display.
Our teams delivered outstanding results, bringing home two gold medals and two silver medals, alongside three 4th placings, one 5th place, one 6th placings, and one 7th place — a wonderful achievement across the board.

A special congratulations to local officials Steve Dyhrberg and Viv Dyhrberg, who were recognised with appointments to officiate Grand Finals — a fitting acknowledgement of their expertise and contribution to the game.
One of the highlights of the week was Tuesday night, when more than 140 players, team staff, and supporters came together to celebrate our vibrant Masters community. It was a great opportunity to connect off the turf, share stories from the day’s play, and acknowledge the spirit that makes Masters hockey so special.
Following a fantastic week of Masters hockey, Wellington Hockey Association and Masters Advisory Group are looking forward to hosting the first Masters Tournament Wrap Up on Friday 27th March at 6.30pm in the NHS Pavilion. This will be a great opportunity to reconnect, reflect on the tournament highlights, and celebrate our Masters community. More information will be shared soon via team managers — we look forward to seeing you there!
