Wellington Hockey has recently delivered its new Intro to 11-a-side programme, run across a four-week block, providing players with a valuable opportunity to step into the full-field game.
The programme focused on building an understanding of 11-a-side hockey, introducing key concepts such as positioning, structure, and game flow. For many participants, it was their first experience of the full format, making it an important step in their hockey development.
Across the four weeks, engagement and participation were consistently strong. Players embraced the learning environment, and the progress made throughout the programme was clear to see. Confidence grew week by week, alongside a deeper understanding of how the full game is played.
Programmes like this play an important role in supporting players as they transition into secondary school hockey, helping set them up for success in a more structured and competitive environment.
Wellington Hockey is looking forward to seeing these players take their new skills onto the turf when the Secondary School Competition gets underway in May.
