Over the last couple of weeks, Wellington Hockey has run several successful events to support and grow our community of umpires.
We kicked things off with our Community and Junior Badge Umpiring Courses, held at Maidstone Park and National Hockey Stadium, which saw an outstanding 48 participants register and take their first steps toward formal accreditation. It was great to see so many young people and community members keen to build their understanding of the game and get more involved.
A big thank you goes to Steven Dyhrberg, who facilitated the Maidstone Park course, and Lexie Etherington, who led the session at NHS.
We also held a JUMP Development Day for junior umpires, which had a fantastic turnout. The day included a mix of classroom-style learning and time on the turf, helping participants build their knowledge and decision-making. Josh McDougall, Max Wallace, and Lexie Etherington did a brilliant job running the sessions and sharing their experience.
It’s great to see so many people keen to get involved in umpiring. We’re excited to follow their progress and support them along the way.
