Mini Sticks
Years 3 & 4 Competition
The Mini Sticks (Years 3 & 4) competition will start on 2nd May 2026 until 12th September 2026, on Saturday mornings between 9:00am-12:30pm. The draw will be published on PlayHQ. Please check playing and non-playing days outlined here. To understand the turf layout for the competition at each venue, please view the handy guide found in our How to Hockey Guide.

We will be offering a HUB Based 3-a-side format for the Mini Sticks (Years 3 & 4) Competition at Wellington's National Hockey Stadium, Porirua's Elsdon Park and Lower Hutt's Fraser Park.
Core Focus
We strongly encourage the focus on play. Cognitively at this age, young players don’t understand positions and how to work together. Introducing a focus on finding a goal to score in that is not being defended (changing the point of attack), scoring goals, introducing the concept of teamwork is the core focus and objective for these junior hockey players.
