Major Tournaments Coming to Wellington in 2026

Wellington will host a strong line-up of national tournaments throughout 2026, welcoming teams, players, officials, and supporters from across the country. These events span representative, secondary school, and age-group competitions, highlighting Wellington as a key destination on the national hockey calendar.

Educare U21 Matariki Tournament (3–6 July)

The Educare U21 Matariki Tournament is a key fixture on the Under-21 calendar, bringing together representative teams from across New Zealand. The tournament provides a valuable competitive environment, while also supporting development for players, coaches, umpires, and team staff and helping bridge the gap between Under 18s and the National Hockey Championships.

Jenny Hair Cup – Tier 3 Secondary School Tournament (31 August – 4 September)

The Jenny Hair Cup is a Tier 3 Secondary School tournament designed to provide meaningful national-level competition for school teams. Held in Wellington, the event offers players the chance to experience tournament hockey, represent their schools, and continue their development in a supportive and competitive setting.

Ford National Hockey Championships (13–19 September)

The Ford National Hockey Championships is New Zealand’s flagship domestic representative tournament. Hosted in Wellington in 2026, the Championships will see teams from across the country compete over a full week, delivering high-quality competition and showcasing the depth of talent within the sport.
