A recap of the U18 National Tournament, highlighting Wellington team performances and development.

Wellington Hockey was proud to send three U18 teams to the 2025 National Tournaments, hosted in Auckland (Women) and Timaru (Men).

This year, two U18 Girls’ teams represented Wellington, believed to be a first for our region in recent history. It was a valuable opportunity for more athletes to compete at national level.

Women – Auckland

  • The Gold team faced tough competition in their first outing, gaining important experience for future campaigns, impressively finishing in the top 16.

  • The Black team delivered a strong performance throughout the week, finishing 4th overall.

Thank you to Allan Carson (Head Coach), Amy Robinson (Assistant Coach), and Debbie Te Awhe (Manager) for their work with the Black team.

Thank you to Stephanie Weller (Head Coach), Kat Winter (Assistant Coach), and Nicola Newman (Manager) for their work with the gold team.

Tournament Results:
  • Women’s Black – 4th Place

  • Women’s Gold – 16th Place

Men – Timaru

The U18 Men’s team headed away to the deep south and had a solid tournament, making it through to the semi-finals before narrowly missing out on a place in the final. The second year in a row they have made the semi-finals. They finished 4th overall.

Thanks to Rob Dent and Leah Murphy (Co-Coaches), and Andrew Herrick (Manager) for their guidance and support.

Tournament Result:
  • Men’s Team – 4th Place

A big thank you to all our players, coaches, and managers who represented Wellington Hockey with effort, commitment, and teamwork. These tournaments are valuable experiences for both individual and collective development.
