Registrations for the 2026 Wellington Hockey season for Officials are now open, and we’re excited to welcome officials back for another year of hockey.
Registrations are open for officials who would like to be involved in the Open Grade and Secondary School competitions. Whether you’ve been umpiring for years or are thinking about getting involved for the first time, we’d love to have you as part of the Wellington Hockey officiating community.
The season always comes around quickly, and officials play a huge role in making competition possible across all levels of the game. Registering early helps us plan appointments, support officials better, and set the season up well from the start.
Match Fees for 2026
Officials appointed to matches during the 2026 season will receive the following remuneration:
$25 per match – Premier 1–4 Open Grade
$20 per match – Secondary School Premier 1–4
$15 per match – Secondary School U15 grade
Other Ways to Get Involved – Match Official & Judging Roles
Alongside on-field umpiring, there are also opportunities this season to be involved in Match Official and Judging roles, supporting the game in a different capacity.
These roles are a great option for those who may not be umpiring every week, are returning from injury, or are keen to stay connected and contribute off the field. Match Officials and Judges play an important part in ensuring competitions run smoothly.
There may also be opportunities to be involved in this capacity at events such as Under 21 tournament from 3-6 July and the National Hockey Championships from 13-19 September.
If this is something you’re interested in, you can indicate this during your registration or get in touch to find out more.
Getting Ready for the Season – March Events
March is a busy month for officials where there are many events planned to reconnect, brush up on rules and interpretations, and ease back into the season. Listed below are the opportunities coming up for officials:
8 March – Pre-Season Officials Social Get-Together
11 March – Open Grade Officials Briefing
16 March – Umpires Refresher (Hutt Valley)
17 March – Umpires Refresher (National Hockey Stadium)
These sessions are open to officials at all levels and are a great way to prepare, ask questions, and catch up with others ahead of the season.
Questions?
If you have any questions, are unsure where you fit, or just want to have a chat about officiating this year, please feel free to get in touch.
We’re really looking forward to another strong season of hockey and to having our officials involved once again.
