In Term 1, we launched Just Stick With It—a brand-new initiative designed to encourage more girls to get involved in sport in a fun, welcoming, and inclusive environment. Our goal was simple: to create a space where girls could try hockey, make new friends, and build confidence both on and off the field.
From day one, the response was incredible! Each week, we kicked things off with afternoon tea and homework support, giving everyone a chance to connect, unwind, and fuel up for the session ahead. Then, it was time to hit the court! Whether it was learning new skills, playing small-sided games, or just enjoying the excitement of the sport, the energy and enthusiasm was contagious.
Over the nine weeks, we saw so many new faces walk through the doors—some picking up a stick for the very first time, others returning to the game with fresh excitement. No matter their experience level, every girl had a place in the programme, and it was inspiring to watch them grow in confidence, teamwork, and love for the game.
What made it even more special? This was our very first time running the programme! Seeing it come to life with such a positive response was a huge highlight, and we’re excited to keep the momentum going.
Now, we’re gearing up for Term 4, where we’ll be back at the Mana College Gymnasium. The programme is open to girls aged 14–18, and no prior experience is needed. All that is required is a positive attitude and a willingness to give it a go!
Stay tuned for more details! We can’t wait to see more people joining and building a community where girls can thrive in sport!
