Wellington Hockey is excited to announce two upcoming Community / Junior Umpire Courses for anyone interested in becoming accredited this season.
These Hockey New Zealand-accredited courses are ideal for WHA officials, junior umpires, club-appointed umpires, and anyone looking to take the first step in their umpiring journey and get on the HNZ Officials Pathway.
Course Details
Participants only need to attend one of the following sessions:
Maidstone Sports Hub – Tuesday 24 June, 6:30pm
National Hockey Stadium – Tuesday 1 July, 6:30pm
Each session will run for approximately 2 hours and cover the key fundamentals of umpiring. The course is primarily theory-based, with a practical assessment to follow. This will be arranged separately and observed by a qualified umpire coach.
The course is free and open to all, including club-appointed and school-appointed umpires who may not be registered as a regular WHA Umpire.

Get a Head Start
We recommend completing a short online module on Bracken called “Introduction to Umpiring” before attending. It takes about 30 minutes and helps you get familiar with the basics. You’ll need to register on Bracken to access it.
