College Sport Wellington (CSW) is excited to announce a new partnership with Wellington Hockey Association (WHA) that will see CSW take over the management of secondary school hockey competitions across the Wellington region from 2025. After a year of collaboration, both organisations have finalised a three-year agreement aimed at improving the hockey experience for students, schools, and all stakeholders.
Under the new partnership, CSW will handle the administration of secondary school hockey competitions, including competition structures, season dates, and regulations. Meanwhile, WHA will focus on facility bookings, youth development, and representative hockey programs. This division of responsibilities allows both organisations to leverage their strengths and ensure a streamlined experience for all involved.
The remainder of 2024 will be spent engaging with schools to gather feedback and discuss future competition structures. CSW will work closely with schools to refine season formats, aiming to develop a model that best meets the needs of secondary school hockey. Michael Langley, CEO of WHA, emphasised the importance of these conversations, saying, “This year has illustrated that change is needed, and we all need to be part of some courageous conversations about what is best for secondary school hockey for 2025 and beyond.”
In the coming months, CSW and WHA will continue refining the operational model to ensure a smooth transition. Schools can expect further updates from CSW Sport Manager, Nadine Stembridge, as the new partnership takes shape.
This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to growing hockey in the Wellington region, fostering a competitive, inclusive, and dynamic environment for all secondary school players. Stay tuned for more updates as CSW prepares to launch this exciting new chapter in secondary school sport.
