Wellington Hockey through its affiliation to Hockey New Zealand is responsible for the administration, development and promotion of hockey in Wellington. We are committed to providing quality experiences and opportunities to players, officials, coaches and supporters of all ages, gender and levels of ability.


U13 & U15 In Season Development Programme

The U13/15 In Season Development Programme is now open to register for 2024 via PlayHQ. This programme is designed for young athletes to develop key skills and serve as a pathway to attend a Lower North Island Festival (U13) or Tournament (15) at the end of the programme.


Open Grade

The Open Grade Competition is the foremost premier hockey competition of the Wellington region. The competition offers grades for individuals of all abilities.


Secondary School

Wellington Hockey provides diverse Winter Hockey Competitions for Secondary School students, aiming to foster holistic development aligned with their Talent Framework while offering opportunities for players of all levels to thrive in a positive environment.

The New Zealand Men's Olympic Hockey team for the Paris 2024 Games has been announced, featuring Wellington Hockey's Dane Lett and Jake Smith in their second Olympic appearance, with Brad Read as a travelling reserve.

Winter Season Competition

Open Grade

The Open Grade Competition is the foremost premier hockey competition of the Wellington region. The competition offers grades for individuals of all abilities.


The mid-season Intercity Hockey Competition features clubs from neighbouring areas such as Taranaki, Hawkes Bay, Manawatu, and Wairarapa, amplifying the passion and skill on display.

Secondary School

Showcasing talent and sportsmanship with development pathways ensuring that every player receives the support they need to reach their full potential on and off the field.

Junior Hockey

To provide a quality hockey experience for children and whānau to foster a lifelong love of hockey. It’s all about playing with friends and learning new skills in a fun, safe and games-based environment.
