With the completion of our first full season of representative hockey in a number of years, Wellington Hockey is now looking ahead in preparation for the 2023 representative season.
The Hockey NZ National U18 tournament has now completed its second year under the association model where our teams have performed strongly. While tournament locations are yet to be confirmed by Hockey NZ for 2023, we can plan around the dates of the events, based on past seasons during week one of the July holidays.
In an exciting evolution to our representative opportunities, we launched an U16 Programme in 2022. This was well received by players and coaches alike as an important development opportunity and steppingstone into the U18 rep space. In 2023, the U16 rep programme will evolve into a campaign running alongside the U18s. This will include a weekly training, fixtures and a tournament in Hamilton against other association teams in week two of the July holidays.
Wellington Hockey is calling for applications for head coaches for teams, along with expressions of interest in assistant coach roles. Applications will close 5pm on the 18th November with the intention to make appointments to head coaching roles by November 30. It is our preference is to appoint coaches on a two-year term, but there is flexibility with this.
