Wellington Hockey

HOLIDAYS
There will be no training next Friday (ANZAC day) or on May 2nd (school holidays).

TRAININGS NEXT TERM
Trainings for Term 2 will begin on WEDNESDAY May 7th. The training time is from 7.00 - 8.30pm. This may vary from time to time, and we will have practice games scheduled in this time slot and on other evenings. We will advise you as these come up.

1st QUAD
The Queens Birthday Quad is in Napier over two days (May 31st / June 1st). We will be travelling up on the Saturday (31st) and both teams will have a game on the Saturday and two on Sunday. Accomodation has been booked. If you are unable to attend this Quad, you need to advise me as soon as possible.

INJURIES
If you are carrying injuries or receiving treatment please advise me. Injuries occur as the season progresses, so please update me on any new injuries and treatments that you may be receiving.

MEDICAL FORMS & DRUG USE
As an elite athlete competing at a national tournament, you may be drug tested. Understanding what perscription drugs and OTC drugs that you can use is important to your performance. I've attached a summary sheet from Drug Free Sport NZ for your reference. If you use asthma medications you must register your use of these prior to the tournament. Ask me for the form or download it here.

See you tonight

Manager

TRAINING
Training this week is at the same time and place: Friday, NHS1 from 5.30 - 7.00pm.

As already explained, at this level of hockey you are expected to be able to prepare for a training session by completing a warm-up and have all your gear ready to go at the start time. Please don't turn up five minutes before and take your stick and a ball and head on to the turf to take shots at the goal! You should do a run, stretch and  ball-work (passing) warmup without having to be told to do so.

I won't be there on Friday so please call or email Grant if you can't make it or will be late.

DEVELOPMENT TEAM COACH AND MANAGER
Hemant and Grant are discussing this this week. We hope to have this sorted soon.

TOURNAMENT DATES
Just to confirm for everyone the National Tournaments that the two Wellington U18 Mens teams will attend are:
Wellington A: National Under 18 Premier tournament; Hamilton: July 7th -12th (with travel days included, makes this 5th - 13th July)
Wellington Development: National Under 18 Championship tournament: Levin: July 7th - 12th. (with travel days included, makes this 6th - 13th July)
(Note: this tournament may be shortened if there are less than 16 teams.)

Please put these in your diary.

GEAR FOR TOURNAMENT
For tournament you are expected to have the gear and back-up gear that will see you through a full week of tournament play. In the past some of you have turned up and have had your only stick rejected, or have broken it, and have then caused yourself (and your parents) great stress over finding you a new stick in a different city. For tournament, you should have the following gear:
2x playing sticks
2x mouthguards
Shinpads
Turf shoes in good condition and with good grip. (If your shoes are worn and you're slipping over on the water turfs at NHS, you may want to consider replacing your shoes)
Playing thermals - July can be very cold. If there is enough interest I will investigate WHA logoed thermals.
A stick bag (or other) suitable for holding all this gear.

There's about 13 weeks before the tournaments, so you should look to sort this gear list out now.

TEAM TEE'S
Do you want a 2008 WHA U18 tee or similar? Let me know and we will sort out some samples.

QUADS
The first quad for both teams is scheduled over Queens Birthday weekend in Napier. We are awaiting confirmation of games, but the plan is to travel up on Saturday and return Monday. We are confirming accommodation. The other quad, planned for Palmerston North on June 21/22, is still to be confirmed. We are also planning to play both teams against the Nelson team one weekend in June.

WHA Drag-Flick Camp GK Clinic and Future Stars Programme.
The WHA has been given a grant by WCC to run these programmes. On Friday 18th April and Saturday 19th April, the first camp/clinic will be run at NHS. Some of you may be invited to participate in these. All are invited to come and watch the sessions and learn. For more information check the WHA site
