Wellington Hockey Association offers a 7 week Masters competition each year for women over 30 years and men over 35 years. Played October - November, this competition can be used as a build up to trials for the Masters Representative teams but is primarily designed to provide a fun yet competitive competition for our more mature players. Normal 11-a-side rules are followed and games are played over 2 x 25 minute halves.
Generally, local Clubs are the ones to enter teams into this competition, although a group of individuals can certainly get involved with this competition. The competition is advertised in the winter season through the website, newsletter and Facebook page.
Each year, Wellington Hockey Association enters Masters teams into the National Masters Tournament. Wellington teams are selected according to age group starting with 35+ for both men and women. Competition age groupings increase by 5 years each time (e.g. 35+, 40+, 45+) with 60+ being the highest age group competing at tournament.
At the tournament itself, New Zealand teams are selected each year (again by age grouping) and regularly compete in Test Series and at International Tournaments.
