2013 Coaching Courses
Hockey New Zealand Coaching Courses
Wellington Hockey Association aligns with the Hockey New Zealand Whole of Hockey plan and in 2013 we will be offering a range of coach development opportunities, including Small Sticks, Youth and Club courses. We will also be offering various extension modules which focus on specific skills, such as goal scoring, elimination skills, reverse hitting and penalty corner attack and defence.
Small Sticks (5 – 8 Years) Course
Sunday 19th May - National Hockey Stadium – 9.00am-12.00pm
This is an introductory course for coaches working with players that are 5 – 8 years old. It includes a 1 ½ hour theory session followed by a 1 ½ hour practical session which covers warm ups, ball carrying, push passing, receiving and small games.
Small Sticks (9 – 12 Years) Course
Sunday 26th May – National Hockey Stadium – 9.00am-12.00pm
This is an introductory course for coaches working with players that are 9 – 12 years old. It includes a 1 ½ hour theory session followed by a 1 ½ hour practical session which covers ball carrying, push passing, hitting, receiving, tackling and small games.
Youth Course
Monday 13th May – National Hockey Stadium – 6.00pm-9.30pm
This is an introductory course for coaches working with players that are 13 – 18 years old. It includes a 1 ½ hour theory session followed by a 2 hour practical session which covers the basic skills of hockey and also goal keeping, elimination skills, goal scoring and penalty corner skills.
Club Course
To be held in June - DATE AND TIME TBC
This is an introductory course for coaches working with players in senior club teams. It includes a 1 ½ hour theory session followed by a 2 hour practical session which covers the basic skills of hockey and also goal keeping, elimination skills, goal scoring and penalty corner skills.
Registration Information
To register for all courses please email sarah@wellingtonhockey.org.nz with your name, address, phone number, the club or school you are affiliated with, and the name of the course you would like to attend. Registration acceptance will be confirmed by email.
The cost for these courses is $30 (to cover the venue/turf/facilitator fees), and this includes a copy of the course notes. Payment can either be made at the course by cash or online directly into the WHA bank account – Bank of New Zealand 020500 0174015 00. When making online payments please use these reference details – ‘Name’ + ‘Coaching’.
Please make sure that you bring appropriate clothes and shoes and a hockey stick along for the practical component of the courses.
